Self-Administered Therapy System

The Self-Administered Physical Therapy System allows patients that have been prescribed physical therapy regimens as a result of hip replacement surgery to perform their therapy safely by themselves while providing information to their physician.

Interface

The physician remotely accesses the therapy computer through the Internet to set constraints of the therapy:

  - How often therapy should be performed

- How many repetitions to perform per session

- How high and how low to move the leg for a repetition

- Several alert conditions including lifting the leg too high and moving the leg too fast

Therapy

The patient connects sensors to their waist, hip, and leg, in addition to a vibro-tactile feedback device.  The patient then logs into the therapy computer.

  As the patient moves their leg, a 3D representation of their hip and leg moves on screen helping them perform their therapy correctly.  Indicators inform the patient of what direction they should move their leg, and what repetition they are on.  When an alert condition is raised because the patient has violated the constraints of their therapy, they receive a vibration as well as a textual notification.

Results

All results are logged and accessible to the doctor over the Internet after therapy completes.
