X-10 Remote Control of Appliances: 

An X-10 system controls appliances in the AOL Home.  The X-10 works on the regular power line carrier and is controlled by a program resident on a PC.  Using a web interface on a PC or personal digital assistant (PDA), X-10 is used to control and monitor the state of lights and appliances.

Personal Digital Assistant: 

The PDA is used in the house for streaming audio and video.  The 802.11b wireless LAN standards are used to transfer audio/video on demand to a PDA.  Goals of this project are: 1) Use wireless (G3) phones to access the Web at very high speeds; 2) Voice recognition; and 3) Control of the home entertainment system via the Web using a PDA.
